Ceremony Proceedings

What Do I Need to Do?

Step 1: Registration

  • Upon arrival, please register your attendance at the Graduand Registration Counters at Hall 3.
  • You will be given an Attendance Card with your name and seat number printed on it. Please sit according to the seat number assigned to your name.
Please retain the attendance card with you at all times

This card is required for your name to be announced when you are presented on stage. You will not be presented on stage if you do not have this card with you.

Step 2: Academic Dress and Robing

  • After registering your attendance, please proceed to put on your academic gown. Our staff will be on hand to assist you.
  • Please bring extra safety pins to secure your hood properly and bobby pins if you are wearing a mortar board.
  • For more information on the academic gown, click here

Step 3: Graduands' Briefing

  • Please be seated in the hall by 1:15pm. (Please leave any invitation cards with your guests before entering the venue.)
  • A briefing will be conducted on the ceremony procedure. Please do not leave the venue after the briefing, as the Convocation will commence shortly after. We recommend that you use the restroom before taking your seat in the venue.
  • We request all graduands not to leave the hall until the end of the ceremony. That way, you will not miss out on celebrating the joyous moments with your family, friends, lecturers and collegemates.

Step 4: During the Ceremony

  • Please have your Attendance Card on hand when you are queuing to be presented on stage.
  • Pass your card to the staff on stage when it is your turn to be presented.
  • When your name is announced, walk towards the centre of the stage to receive your certificate folder from the Chairman.
  • You will be presented with a blank certificate folder while on stage.
  • Shake hands with the Chairman and pause for your stage photograph.
  • Then walk in front of the Chairman before going off-stage.
  • Staff and ushers will guide you to the certificate collection area. You will collect your actual certificate after you have gone off-stage.
  • After collecting your certificate, please return to your assigned seat and remain seated until the ceremony concludes.
  • Graduands will be presented in the order listed in the Convocation programme booklet.
Respect and consideration for others
  • When you are presented on stage, please give due respect to the Guest-of-Honour and our Board Chairman when receiving your certificate folder by limiting your contact to a handshake.
  • With the large number of graduands individually presented at the ceremony, any delay in presentation, such as those caused by the taking of wefies, would prolong the ceremony for other graduands, families and friends.
  • It is a happy moment for you and your fellow graduands, so do applaud for one another as you jointly celebrate your achievements.

Step 5: Conclusion of Ceremony

  • All graduates are required to join the Academic Procession to exit the Ceremony Hall at the end of the ceremony.
  • You will be led by a Marshall. Please follow your respective Marshall in an orderly manner.
  • There will be a reception after the Convocation ceremony for all graduands and guests with invitation cards.
