Hi Herman, to many pragmatic Singaporeans, it is unusual to enrol in a diploma programme after having graduated from junior college (JC). Why did you choose Diploma in Dance at LASALLE?
Following the footsteps of their award-winning alumni community, students at LASALLE College of the Arts are evolving into the next generation of globally engaged artists, designers and leaders.
The LASALLE Show Exhibition is an annual show by final year students from the Diploma, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Master of Arts programmes. The 2020 edition of The LASALLE Show returns this year after being held back by the COVID-19 pandemic. Showcasing works of students from Fine Arts, Film, Media Arts, Dance, Music, Theatre and Art Therapy, the exhibition is a celebration of the resilience of the Class of 2020 and marks the transformation of these young talents into industry-ready creative leaders.
Diploma in Performance students perform a delightfully entertaining selection of contemporary drama. Join us for an enchanting evening of roller coaster scenes that will delight, provoke, move and rattle your imagination.
Probably Shakespeare’s most famous and exuberant comedy, Twelfth Night is a tale of romance, pranks and gender benders, centred on a pair of twins shipwrecked and separated in Illyria. This production, set in 1930s Singapore and featuring the glamour and jazz of the period, is performed by Level 2 BA(Hons) Acting students in collaboration with other programmes from LASALLE’s Faculty of Performing Arts.
Mission impossible
It seems almost impossible that people from all over the world convened in Belgium to create new work in just over a week, but that was exactly what we accomplished at ChampdAction.LAbO 2019.
To support our artistic journeys as visual artists, illustrators, actors, dancers, musicians, we attended guest lectures and workshops on a variety of topics with coaches from various arts disciplines guiding us through our projects.
It will truly be a family affair at the Asian premiere of musical revue A Spoonful of Sherman. Beyond celebrating the songwriting exploits of the Sherman brothers and their father, the production is a homecoming for LASALLE College of the Arts – reuniting BA(Hons) Musical Theatre fresh graduate Vanessa Kee with her senior Mina Ellen Kaye and their singing lecturer TJ Taylor.

As the rare art school that houses art, design, media and performance under one roof, interdisciplinary collaborations are an inextricable part of LASALLE’s DNA. With such opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration within the curriculum, the artists, designers and performers that graduate from LASALLE are indeed a unique breed – adept at working with practitioners outside the realm of their art form while pioneering innovative artistic vocabularies and methodologies.
The scope of her vision may be small but her dream to be recognised professionally on stage is huge. Despite being diagnosed with a degenerative eye condition that will eventually lead to total blindness, Diploma in Performance graduate Claire Teo remains steadfast in her pursuit of an acting career.
Understanding that rejection is part and parcel of the industry, and that people may hold prejudices against her disability, she is nonetheless positive about her future. She looks forward to helping marginalised individuals find voice and acceptance within society.
