Essentially, 'embodied performativity' is about aligning creative practice and embodied experience. At our seminars in 2019, we deliberately brought together a wide range of artists to explore mind and body connections, as well as somatic and visceral experiences expressed through movement and gesture.

Teaching students to call the shots with digital stage management tools

Think back to the last time you went to the theatre. Do you remember how many lighting changes there were in the show you watched? How about sound effects? Or scene changes?

If you haven’t a clue, you’re not alone—and that’s a good thing. Calling, or cueing, is a core duty of the deputy stage manager, who keeps track of every technical element during a live performance and cues the lighting, sound, flying and special effects departments to ensure the show runs seamlessly.

In conversation with: Vanessa Ellen Powell on performing in the virtual realm

“Busy is an understatement!” laughs Vanessa Ellen Powell, BA(Hons) Musical Theatre alumna, when asked what she’s been busy with since her LASALLE days. After dazzling audiences as Mama Rose in her graduation musical Gypsy, Vanessa went on to win the LASALLE Award for Academic Excellence, perform at Universal Studios Singapore for several years and set up her own singing school, Vanessa’s Voices.

Leela Alaniz

Leela Alaniz is a Franco-Brazilian director, actress, actor trainer and the founder and artistic director of Paris-based theatre company Pas de Dieux. Her career consists of a constant round-trip movement between the practice and theory of theatre. With over 25 years of practice and research in Theatre Anthropology and Corporeal Mime, Dr Alaniz has performed and directed several plays, toured in numerous countries and taught courses in the US, Europe, Turkey, Singapore and South America.

The Straits Times: Youth gun for the stage

Theatre groups established by millennials, for the millennial crowd, is on the rise. Kristine Ng, a BA(Hons) Arts Management alumna from LASALLE and current theatre producer of the Second Breakfast Company, shared: “We felt there was a gap when it came to theatre companies that involved youths. There were many accomplished companies but most worked with seasoned practitioners and few had platforms for aspiring or emerging young talent.”
