Level 2 Diploma in Performance students present a theatrical adaptation of the Singapura Dilanggar Todak, the Singaporean myth of the boy who comes up with an ingenious solution to protect his village from swordfish, only to meet with a tragic end at the hands of a jealous king. The performance will also feature level 1 Diploma in Performance students.

Berita Harian: Building confidence and self-identity with the arts

Self-doubt often hinders one’s growth but for graduates Danial Ariffin and Shafiq Haziq, they have managed to overcome their insecurities via the arts. They graduated with BA(Hons) Music and BA(Hons) Musical Theatre degrees respectively at LASALLE’s 33rd Convocation, and shared more about how the arts transformed their lives. Danial is presently kept busy with arranging music for various events, while Shafiq is set to star in an upcoming musical.

Antigone’s uncle Creon has inherited the throne and issued a royal edict banning the burial of her brother Polyneices, whom he believes was a traitor. Antigone defies the law, buries her brother, and is caught. When Creon locks her away in prison, she kills herself. What does it mean to live without compromise? What does it mean to withstand betraying the trust of others to remain faithful to one’s own soul?

For many LASALLE graduands, the road to an education in the performing arts has not always been a straightforward one. As our students prepare for their graduating performances in their final year, they look back on the different paths that brought them here, and the lessons learned in juggling the concerns of pursuing an arts education in contemporary Singapore. Shahirah, Danial and Afiq share more about their respective journeys as well as their plans for the future, post-graduation.
