In a time when Singapore’s literature is thriving, Programme Leader of LASALLE’s MA Creative Writing programme Dr Darryl Whetter asks an apt question in this opinion editorial: “When a country claims its writers, how much of that citizenship is real or fiction?”
How did you first get started in artist management?
While studying in poly I started creating artist press kits and liaising with venues for tech riders for some of my friends. I also managed my brother’s band, CampFire, which was a hip-hop electronic duo.
My first job in the industry was as an intern for Umami Records. My job scope consisted of handling the music distribution to stores such as pitching to Spotify and Apple Music curators. I also sent out press releases for the label.
With the theme Image and Sound of Fragrance, popular multi-disciplinary arts festival ARTWALK Little India (ARTWALK) returns for a grand celebration of the cultural precinct’s rich heritage via the arts. Visitors can look forward to new highlights including an immersive exhibition at UltraSuperNew Gallery, five more murals to add to Little India’s colourful vibrancy, and an extended programming over 16 days, the festival’s longest period yet.

Entry: “What My Net Dragged to the Surface”
The winning poem, “What My Net Dragged to the Surface”, was praised by judge Jo Shapcott for its “skilful emotional structuring, made to look like a disordered heap of this and that, but with items and layers forensically selected as the poem moves down the page, gathering in a momentum of feeling.”

Art therapists are often called to take on different roles in order to understand and contain their clients’ experiences. They must continuously seek to deepen their work through evidence-based practices, art creation, and by keeping abreast of the latest research findings.
This exhibition – organised by the Art Therapists’ Association Singapore (ATAS) in collaboration with LASALLE College of the Arts and The Ngee Ann Kongsi Library – aims to showcase the many facets of an art therapist’s role as clinicians, artists and researchers.
As part of the Artist-in-Residence series by the MA Art Therapy Programme, Dr Debra Kalmanowitz (PhD, HCPC, BAAT) will be making a presentation on the use of art therapy with refugees who have experienced trauma.
Through case examples, a combination of art therapy and mindfulness-informed practice will be explored. A focus on a few key ideas in work and volatile situations will allow one to unpack the notion of Portable Studio and mindfulness-informed practice, and how these are suited to work in very specific contexts.
