LASALLE students win at National Youth Film Awards 2018

At the National Youth Film Awards (NYFA) 2018, more than 30 LASALLE students were nominated across 15 categories, winning Best Direction, Best Lighting and Best Camerawork in a Documentary Film, as well as all three Animation awards for Best Animated Film, Best Writing and Best Art Direction.

Local film wins top prize at prestigious Locarno International Film Festival

A Land Imagined, directed by local filmmaker and LASALLE part-time lecturer Yeo Siew Hua right here in Singapore, has made history by being the first Singaporean film to win the coveted Golden Leopard – the grand prize for Best Film – at the prestigious Locarno Festival 2018 in Switzerland. It is also the first Singaporean film to ever be nominated in the Main Competition (Concorso Internazionale) category at Locarno.

LASALLE College of the Arts' Puttnam School of Film & Animation is proud to host the 24Hour Comics Day for the fifth year running. On this day, creative minds from all over Singapore and the region will converge at LASALLE to take on the 24Hour Comics challenge – to create a 24-page comic book story, normally months' worth of work, in 24 straight hours, as part of an annual international celebration of comics creation.

Love of 'Gaming' Animation Drives Him to Hone His Talent

Muhammad Noor Hilman Noordin, a student currently in LASALLE's Diploma in Animation programme, was first sucked into the world of animation through the television programmes he watched, and the computer games he played. At some point, he realised animation was a skill that he could turn into his livelihood. That gave him the push he needed to embark on this path, and he picked an animation course at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) College Central after finishing secondary school.

Sawn Hwang

Born in Singapore, Sawn Hwang was an Ericsson Scholarship recipient, he received his MFA (Painting) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia in 2003 at LASALLE College of the Arts. Sawn Hwang studied and researched on the fundamentals of art making in his MFA programme, exploring conceptually to suppress the representational values inherent in mediums used in artworks. Sawn Hwang is currently a full-time lecturer with the Faculty for the Creative Industries at LASALLE.

WARD 77 is an evocative short film that raises questions about how well one knows family, and if the ties that bind them are strong enough to withstand hidden secrets. It is inspired by Professor Edwin Thumboo’s poem of the same name.
