Born in Singapore, Sawn Hwang was an Ericsson Scholarship recipient, he received his MFA (Painting) from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia in 2003 at LASALLE College of the Arts. Sawn Hwang studied and researched on the fundamentals of art making in his MFA programme, exploring conceptually to suppress the representational values inherent in mediums used in artworks. Sawn Hwang is currently a full-time lecturer with the Faculty for the Creative Industries at LASALLE. Extending his professional practice, he exerts his fundamental inputs onto (Arts) education, particularly in the areas of teaching/learning processes. His interested areas include exploring and developing teaching structures/methodologies that inspire young learners in school to gain relevant learning values by reflecting primarily on their own backgrounds and experiences.
