As global travel resumes in the aftermath of the pandemic, international exchanges and study trips have also restarted in earnest. In the summer of 2022, undergraduate and postgraduate students across various programmes from LASALLE embarked on journeys to a diverse range of destinations, including France, US, Australia, Thailand and Cambodia.

BA(Hons) Film alumna Vivienne Chong nearly went overseas to further her studies after graduating from Nanyang Technological University with a major in mass media management. A chance encounter with a film director at an internship changed her life.

To Kill the Birds and the Bees is an animated short film that made waves at this year’s National Youth Film Awards (NYFA), an annual film competition hosted by *SCAPE that spotlights local youth filmmakers. The film won three awards: Best Art Direction, Best Screenplay, and Best Original Music.

To Kill the Birds and the Bees, an animation by BA(Hons) Animation Art graduand Calleen Koh, won ‘Best Art Direction’, ‘Best Screenplay’ and ‘Best Original Music’ at the National Youth Film Awards 2021. The animation follows four Singaporeans who each encounter a sexual situation with less than desirable outcomes, ultimately critiquing the highly sanitised way in which Singapore approaches sex education.
Sinema: Presenting the 2021 Film School Graduate Productions from LASALLE
Despite downsized crew sizes and talent numbers on set, the BA(Hons) Film graduating class completed shooting and delivered eleven short films for industry viewing during a pandemic. These young filmmakers were applauded for their maturity and bravery in tackling heavy subjects such as life and death, as well as their ambition in visual storytelling.
