Berita Harian: First private arts university to be established

Singapore will establish its first private university of the arts and it will be jointly managed by LASALLE and NAFA, announced Minister of Education Mr Lawrence Wong. During the parliamentary session, he acknowledged that both institutions have developed into centres of artistic excellence, each with their own unique identities and strengths. With the government's support, he hopes to leverage their respective strengths and traditions so that students and academics alike can benefit from more diverse opportunities.

TODAY: LASALLE, NAFA to jointly set up S'pore's first university of the arts

LASALLE and NAFA will team up to establish Singapore’s first university of the arts over the next three to four years, said Education Minister Mr Lawrence Wong in Parliament. While both institutions will remain separate and distinct entities, students will benefit from increased opportunities to cross-institution projects, research, industry partnerships and sharing of learning resources. Both institutions will also be able to award degrees in the name of the new private university.

A new university of the arts will be formed by an alliance between the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) and Lasalle College of the Arts, announced Minister of Education Mr Lawrence Wong in Parliament. He further elaborated that the new arts university will be private but supported by the Government, and that both LASALLE and NAFA will retain their distinct identities.

Media release: LASALLE College of the Arts Interior Design students collaborate with *SCAPE to redesign key spaces

Recently, *SCAPE invited interior design students at LASALLE College of the Arts (“LASALLE”) to re-imagine their Music Village and Dance Village as welcoming, inclusive spaces that encourage greater participation from youths of all walks of life.

The competition ran between September to November 2020, and 62 BA(Hons) Interior Design Level 3 students took part, divided across 13 groups. *SCAPE awarded first, second and third prizes to the most outstanding designs, valued at S$3,000, S$2,000 and S$1,000 respectively.

The Straits Times: Phunk and soul

Contemporary art and design collective PHUNK – which was founded by LASALLE Diploma in Design Communication alumni Alvin Tan, Melvin Chee, Jackson Tan and William Chan – have published a new monograph Control Chaos: Redefining the Visual Cultures of Asia. This book traces the ways in which PHUNK has mixed urban street culture, art and design to create a unique body of work.
