The 10 student winners of the OPPO Singapore photography competition together with staff members from LASALLE and OPPO.

The OPPO Singapore photography competition was organised in collaboration with LASALLE’s School of Fashion. Themed 'Rediscover Fading Traditions', the competition sought to uncover Singapore’s rich heritage through the perspective of LASALLE students.

The winners from the School of Fashion, School of Design Communication and McNally School of Fine Arts received their prizes at an awards ceremony held at LASALLE’s McNally Campus. Following the ceremony, prize winners, along with final year students from the BA (Hons) Fashion Media and Industries programme, took part in a photography workshop conducted by Joy Cheng, Director of Image Effect Cognition at OPPO and professor of photography at Sichuan University of Media and Communications.

Student Phoebe Natalie Fong Jing En clinched first place in the competition with her entry Bird Watching, which was taken at Teck Whye Aquarium and featured an old uncle watching the birds on display at the shop. Sharing her views on how such briefs are important to students, Phoebe said, “These industry projects not only let students showcase our works on a wider platform, it also gives us good exposure to put our practice into real life, plus opportunities to make a name for ourselves in the creative industries.

“By putting my work out there, I realised that each opportunity for exposure opens doors to new experiences, connections, and learning moments.”
