Based upon Mother Courage and Her Children by Bertolt Brecht

Mother Courage and Her Children was written in 1939 in response to the rise in facism and Nazism in Germany. Brecht chose to locate this story in the 17th century’s Thirty Years' War and it follows the fortunes of Anna Frieling and her three children. Determined to create opportunity out of crisis, Anna’s efforts ultimately prove fruitless and lead to the loss of all her children. The play serves as a moral compass for anyone who seeks to benefit from calamity and suffering. Ma Courage takes loose inspiration from Brecht's original, relocating the play and its concerns to a Singaporean context. The play is performed by the Diploma in Performance students, in collaboration with the Diploma in Theatre Production and Management programme.

This performance was recorded at Gateway Theatre, in strict adherence to safe management measures.
