LASALLE College of the Arts has launched a series of year-long events, exhibitions and workshops to commemorate the centenary of its late founder, Brother Joseph McNally.

LASALLE College of the Arts proudly celebrated the achievements of 832 graduates from the Class of 2023 at a Convocation ceremony held at the Singapore Expo Convention & Exhibition Centre on 4 August. The graduates received their Diplomas, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Master’s degrees, and 16 graduates received the LASALLE Award for Academic Excellence, awarded to the top students in the cohort.

In this article exploring career opportunities for fine arts graduates in Singapore, Dr Venka Purushothaman, Deputy President and Provost at LASALLE, shares that fine arts graduates have a noticeable entrepreneurial energy and a variety of soft skills that are transferable across different jobs.

A group of students from the BA(Hons) Product Design programme were challenged to design lamps inspired by Diwali, the festival of lights, and these creations were showcased at Milan Design Week 2023.

The young designers brought different interpretations and inspirations to their works, designed with attention to sustainability, using natural materials and solar energy to power their creations.

Zuhaira Syaza Amir Khaled's work for this year's The LASALLE Show Exhibition entitled 'Siapa Aku' highlights the way of life of the Islanders in the past and is very close to her heart.

This is because the final year BA(Hons) Design Communication student found out that she is of island descent herself.

"Whilst choosing the topic for this final year project, I developed an interest in the life and ways of life of the islanders before 1970," Zuhaira told BERITAmediacorp.

The LASALLE Show Exhibition, an annual exhibition showcasing works by final year students from the Diploma, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and postgraduate programmes at LASALLE College of the Arts, will open in galleries throughout LASALLE’s McNally Campus from Friday 19 May 2023 till Wednesday 31 May 2023.

What would a more equal fashion ecosystem look like? How can the designers of tomorrow be guided by greater empathy, inclusivity and diversity? How do we care for each other in a changed world?

These are just some of the questions explored in the 14 diverse fashion collections unveiled at LASALLE College of the Arts’ graduate fashion show on Monday 15 May 2023.

The Covid-19 pandemic forced the performing arts industry to explore new ways of artistic expression, with many artists turning to technology to overcome the challenges posed by closed borders and shuttered performance venues. While the pandemic caused immense disruption to the industry, it also opened up exciting opportunities for hybrid and digital workarounds and innovative practices that I believe are worth sustaining.
