Dr Pow Jun Kai works in the intersection of digital humanities and cultural history. His research interests pertain mainly to the gender, media and sustainability of modern Malayan and Indonesian cultures, including present-day cultural practices in the European and Caribbean diaspora.

Ceramics Conversations I with Daisy Toh and Dr Suriani Suratman

In this conversation, Singaporean ceramicists Daisy Toh and Dr Suriani Suratman will discuss different approaches in using the two specific materials of porcelain and buff raku in their creative practice. 

They will speak about the versatile qualities of the raw material in making both functional and artistic works. Both ceramicists will also share about their recent artistic works and future creative directions.

The Living Room: Honouring memory and meaning-making with art therapy during grief and loss

In this presentation, art therapist and LASALLE alumna Jolene Chiang will share how art therapy implemented in a community setting can provide a safe space for the bereaved to express their grief and losses. The Living Room refers to the title of a client’s artwork depicting the symbolic space where she cared for her father in his final days, and her role as a caregiver.

MA Art Therapy Artist in Residence lecture: Seeing Her Stories

Dr Carla van Laar is the Artist in Residence for the MA Art Therapy programme in the School of Creative Industries from 3 to 7 February 2025.

Seeing Her Stories combines Dr van Laar’s fascination with the power of seeing artworks, commitment to sharing women’s stories through art and interest in discursive perspectives. This research adds layers of meaning to understandings about what happens when artworks are made, shown and seen.
