Autumn, a Time to Harvest Her Skills

Mrs Tan Shook Wah started the Dare to Dream scholarship in 2013 to aid special needs students in their education. Her reasons? She told The Straits Times in an interview that given how she would have more time come retirement, and have the resources and knowledge to help, she wanted to make an impact.

“I wanted to be involved, know the students, email them, chat with them, attend their exhibitions, and help them with internships and employment. I wanted it to be very personal,” she shared.

Bring on the film gems

The Singapore International Film Festival 2017 (SGIFF) is the 28th edition of the nation’s largest and longest-running film event. This year’s line-up was observed to be more stunning than the last for many of the selected films have already gained steady acclaim abroad.

Our Diploma in Broadcast Media lecturer, Wesley Leon Aroozoo, did a feature interview with The Straits Times as his documentary is one of the few being screened under SGIFF’s Singapore Panorama section – a platform that spotlights talented local directors for their ground-breaking work.

Diverse Theatre Practices at APB Theatre Schools Festival

On 15 September 2013, students from LASALLE’s Acting and Technical & Production Management Programmes spent an unforgettable week at the Asia Pacific Bureau (APB) Theatre Schools Festival 2013. The event hosted more than 15 schools from 10 countries in this year’s Festival in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Established in 2009, the festival aims to foster collaboration, build professional connections and encourage sharing of knowledge and experience among theatre schools in the Asia-Pacific.

Monkey Goes West and Art Make Theatre History

Amidst the winners of the 15th M1-The Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards, LASALLE’s BA(Hons) Musical Theatre alumna, Mina Kaye, was crowned Best Actress for her role in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice by Pangdemonium, and BA(Hons) Acting alumni – Pavan J Singh, Crispian Chan and Erwin Shah Ismail – won the title of Best Ensemble for their roles in Dark Room x 8.

In collaboration with industry professional, Inigo (a technical specialist with Toyota), Joanna Christie and Yanti gained the top prize of S$10,000 and a trophy in this competition.

The Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards

Hui Xuan has many years of experience teaching dance, piano and drama, and choreographing for dance and theatre shows. Some of her notable theatre roles include Fanny in 2 Houses (George Town Festival 2014); Ruby Lee in Rising Son (Singapore Repertory Theatre); Kayleen in Gruesome Playground Injuries (Pangdemonium); Izzy in Rabbit Hole (Pangdemonium); Olivia in Twelfth Night (Singapore Repertory Theatre); and April in Company (Dream Academy), for which she won Best Supporting Actress at The Straits Times 13th Life! Theatre Awards.

The Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards

Within two years of graduating from LASALLE, Mina Kaye wowed Singaporean audiences with her star turn as LV in Pangdemonium’s The Rise and Fall of Little Voice to win Best Actress at The Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards 2015. The Musical Theatre alumna’s versatility was on full display in the musical, where she impersonated eight iconic divas from Edith Piaf to Teresa Teng.
