774 graduates from LASALLE College of the Arts received their Diplomas, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Master’s degrees at a Convocation ceremony held at the Singapore Expo Convention & Exhibition Centre on 8 August. 16 graduates from the Class of 2025 also received the LASALLE Award for Academic Excellence, awarded to the top students in the cohort.
Guest of Honour Dr Tan See Leng, Minister for Manpower and Minister-In-Charge of Energy and Science & Technology gave a speech to celebrate the achievements of the graduates. Minister Tan also presented the McNally Award for Excellence in the Arts, LASALLE’s valedictorian award, and interacted with graduates after the ceremony.
Professor Steve Dixon, President of LASALLE, said “LASALLE graduates are imaginative, bold, adaptable and highly skilled. I am tremendously proud of the Class of 2025, who leave me with no doubt that the future of art and design in Singapore is extremely bright.”
Among the graduates recognised for their exceptional achievement was Namjot Kaur, recipient of the McNally Award for Excellence in the Arts.
Namjot, who graduates with a BA (Hons) Product Design degree, has proven to be an accomplished and multifaceted designer, innovating and bringing to life novel, thoughtful and ambitious ideas. Namjot gained recognition at Milan Design Week 2025, where she was selected by DesignSingapore Council to be one of 14 Singaporean designers to exhibit her project Tera—a sustainable, self-watering plant system.
Namjot’s design practice is also informed by her interest in aviation. She is currently pursuing her pilot's license, adding a dynamic dimension to her creative process as she leverages insights from the skies to bring a fresh approach to her designs. Her pioneering final-year project, ALBATROSS, was recognised for design excellence at the prestigious Red Dot Award, receiving the award for Design Concept. Through the project, Namjot endeavored to tackle a pressing real-world problem—the need for a faster and more affordable way to deliver first aid to disaster-hit regions in Indonesia. She envisioned and developed a prototype for a hybrid glider, designed with support from aerospace engineers.
Lum Wing Chee, one of the recipients of the LASALLE Award for Academic Excellence, graduates with a BA (Hons) Acting degree as a versatile actor and performance-maker. Proactively seeking growth opportunities beyond the classroom, Wing Chee co-directed Reunion, a storytelling performance featuring his peers from LASALLE’s School of Dance & Theatre. A firm believer in the power of the arts, Wing Chee also volunteers weekly with New Life Stories, supporting children of incarcerated parents by developing their reading and writing skills.
Diploma in Fine Arts graduate Tiara Choo Meisin has also made meaningful contributions to the local arts community, including participating in the Art in Transit initiative in 2025, where she co-created a digital illustration for a public wall decal at Rochor MRT station. This large-scale artwork celebrates the diversity of movement and individuality in Singapore’s urban landscape, blending whimsy with cultural reflection.
Charmaine Chong Zhiwei, graduating with a BA (Hons) Animation Art degree, also received the LASALLE Award for Academic Excellence. Whilst at LASALLE, they created multiple visually captivating and emotionally compelling films that explore important social themes, including public health, mental health and youth pressure. Charmaine's final-year film Dance Again tackled the complex subject of young-onset dementia, animated in two distinct visual styles to differentiate reality from the subjective world of dementia.
Further to the Convocation ceremony, around 50 additional postgraduate students will receive their degrees at a postgraduate ceremony to be held in November.
