This forum is structured as a conversation about the role of women’s art exhibitions in Southeast Asia’s contemporary arts ecology. How have these exhibitions shaped the perception of art produced by women in the region? Are exhibitions of women’s art necessarily ‘feminist’? And what is the role of women’s art exhibitions in creating new public spheres for artists who are at times marginalised in Southeast Asian art histories? Drawing from the expertise and experiences of artists, curators, writers and art historians, this forum will open new critical insights into this often understudied area of exhibition histories from the region. The forum is organised as part of the Exhibitions and the Making of Art Histories module offered in the MA Asian Art Histories programme.
