Tricks and Treats features bite-sized pieces of music – adding twists to the familiar, rendering them delightful and engaging.

Valerie Tjota and Eshan Denipitiya’s time as students in the classical stream of LASALLE’s BA(Hons) Music programme introduced them to the infinite possibilities of a single musical motif through some of the greatest and most iconic works of acclaimed classical composers. A Halloween-themed special, Tricks and Treats showcases classics like Liszt’s Tarantella and Saint-Saëns’ Danse Macabre, as well as Valerie and Eshan’s very own compositions and arrangements.

Adopting the styles of other renowned classical composers in their original renditions of familiar tunes by iconic pop stars like Michael Jackson and Queen, their concert pays homage to the ingenuity of these musicians and the greats of the classical era. The concert is also a tribute to Valerie and Eshan’s teachers at LASALLE, under whose guidance they were inspired to explore the realm of classical improvisation and composition.

The Lunchtime Concert Series aims to provide a platform for leading creative musical figures from Singapore and overseas. With a focus on showcasing original work, the eclectic curation features a broad cross section of musical styles designed to expose LASALLE music students and the general public to both hidden and well-known talents.
