LASALLE College of the Arts is proud to present The Clarity After (一雨净虚空), a major retrospective honouring Chua Ek Kay (1947–2008), one of Singapore’s most notable contemporary artists and a distinguished alumnus. Showcasing 50 paintings from a significant private collection on display to the public for the first time, it allows one to step into the artist’s mind to understand his creative process.

Through vast archival materials, the exhibition explores the artist’s ‘co-curation’ efforts by presenting his ‘voices’ through quotes, handwritten manuscripts and sketches to share his inner thoughts and the challenges he faced in life. Personal reflections from his students, friends and family provide insight into the artist’s journey in search of a visual language—underscoring the core of the art curriculum as evidenced in LASALLE’s 40 over years of arts education in Singapore.

English forum: Chua Ek Kay as an Educator, Artist and Innovator

Join Milenko Prvački, Teo Han Wue, and Low Sze Wee in a thought-provoking discussion on Chua Ek Kay’s artistic and cultural legacy. The forum explores his enduring influence as a teacher and innovator, bicultural vision, and redefinition of ink within Singapore’s modern art landscape. Through their reflections, the speakers offer fresh perspectives on how Chua bridged tradition and modernity through both art and education.
