Music Legend
Improvised music legend and one of America’s great musicians, Professor Lewis spent a week with LASALLE’s School of Contemporary Music as Artist-in-Residence in February 2016.
Over the week, he engaged with students in workshops and research, and performed with an ensemble comprising staff, students and alumni. Professor Lewis also delivered a lively open lecture where he performed excerpts from his work and spoke about his distinguished career.
Professor Lewis is the Edwin H. Case Professor of American Music at Columbia University and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His creative work as composer, improviser and computer/installation artist is documented on more than 140 recordings, presented by world-renowned orchestras from the London Philharmonia to the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart.
