Striving for originality by pushing traditional media genres to the extreme doesn’t always make the end-product better or more novel, says film industry veteran Sophia Wellington.

Even as film makers strive for originality, there are some conventions that they may have to adhere to for a genre movie to hit the mark with their audiences.

Liven Up Little India With Colours Of Art

After two successful editions, ARTWALK Little India returns with a new theme, Your Path To Remember. This year, the festival leads visitors into a space in time where memories and stories of the precinct come to life through animated telling of traditional folktales and mythologies, captivating art installations and immersive performances. Organised by LASALLE College of the Arts and Singapore Tourism Board, with the support of the Little India Shopkeepers’ and Heritage Association, the festival runs from Thu 12 to Tue 17 Jan 2017.

The Walls Are Alive In Little India

ARTWALK Little India returned for its third edition, presenting over 18 outdoor art installations, along with live music and dance acts, over a span of one week in early January this year. Through a video tour, The New Paper featured four stunning murals including the colourful whimsical cattle in Cattleland 2 and the famous actor Rajinikanth in Working Class Hero.

Artwalk Pays Homage To Little India’s Heritage

ARTWALK Little India 2017 took place for a week in early January this year. Presented by LASALLE College of the Arts and Singapore Tourism Board, with the support of the Little India Shopkeepers’ and Heritage Association, the Little India precinct was livened up with over 23 artworks, installations, performances and fringe activities that can be enjoyed all around the district.

LASALLE Outlines Initiatives To Help Graduates Find Work

Berita Harian spoke to BA(Hons) Arts Management alumni Firdaus Arman, Management Consultant at Ernst & Young, and Umar Mukhtar Abdul Razak, Underwriter at QBE Insurance Singapore Pte Ltd, on their career paths, the challenges they faced and how their arts education at LASALLE prepared them for the professional world.

Through an email interview, Firdaus shared, “LASALLE prepared me to be open minded, not just in the Singapore context but globally and be able to discuss and articulate ideas that might be new or different.”

Award Of Excellence For First Class LASALLE Graduate

Nur Shireen Marican, from the BA(Hons) Arts Management Programme, received the LASALLE Award for Academic Excellence at the College’s 31st Convocation ceremony on Monday, 18 September 2017. Given only to the best student of each school, Shireen’s win is well-deserved.

As her lecturer, Sunitha Janamohanan, commented: “Throughout (Shireen’s) studies at LASALLE, she has consistently delivered work that was of an exceptional and professional standard.”

Popular multi-disciplinary arts festival ARTWALK Little India, jointly organised by LASALLE College of the Arts (LASALLE) and Singapore Tourism Board (STB), with the support of Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association, returns for its fourth edition in January 2018 as part of Singapore Art Week.
