The Straits Times: Pandemic inspires visual arts project

The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many galleries closing. In light of this and to continue supporting artists during this time of crisis, the National Gallery Singapore and Singapore Art Museum will be spearheading Proposals for Novel Ways of Being, a series of programmes that brings together 170 artists under 12 institutions.

LASALLE’s Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore is part of this initiative, exhibiting The Fabric of Sympathy in early September. This group show is curated by MA Fine Arts graduand Luke Heng and features artworks by nine other alumni of the College. “The role of art in this pandemic became a question that was very much on the forefront of our minds. It was important to us that our students’ work should engage with wider conversations about navigating uncertainty and our common humanity in a time of crisis," said Professor Steve Dixon, President of LASALLE.
