Life after a creative education can be productive, fulfilling and equally stable, as reported by four arts graduates in Singapore. It is not without challenges though but as with any other nine-to-five corporate job, these artists persevere with passion.
Take LASALLE’s technical theatre alumna and theatre sound designer Guo Ningru for instance. As a woman in a male-dominated field, there are many challenges to overcome. Even then, she would not trade her career for anything, stating that her work as a sound designer was meaningful.
BA(Hons) Fine Arts graduate Fazleen Karlan echoes this same sentiment. Her work at the archaeology unit at the ISEAS–Yusof Ishak Institute involves more than just cleaning artefacts. She uses the observational and analytical skills taught at LASALLE to process large amounts of visual information and link them up to larger historical contexts.
