An inaugural event in collaboration with the EU delegation in Singapore
LASALLE partnered the European Union (EU) Delegation in Singapore to present the inaugural EU Writers’ Festival (EUWF) at the College in May 2017.
Celebrating 60 years of the EU, strong cultural connections between the EU and Singapore, and the launch of LASALLE’s MA Creative Writing Programme, the Festival opening featured readings from two European students of the programme, Matthew Lyon and Olivier Casteignede, alongside two eminent local poets, Yong Shu Hoong and Heng Siok Tian.
Headlining the festival with a lively dialogue on film writing was German writer and filmmaker Michael Schindhelm in conversation with Dr Darryl Whetter, Programme Leader, MA Creative Writing at LASALLE. The EUWF also tackled current topics such as reading and writing in the age of social media, challenges of art writing and the fine art of publishing.
