The Symposium of Improvised Music (SIM) is the first symposium presented by the School of Contemporary Music in conjunction with the CHOPPA Festival of Experimental Music.

‘SIM 18’ features talks by international improvisers performing in the CHOPPA Festival. Panel discussions will explore current practices in contemporary improvisation, developing language, solo and group practice and especially the area of recording improvised music. The CHOPPA Festival 18 includes a number of artists from Germany supported by the Goethe Institute and therefore, this edition of ‘SIM 18’ likewise focuses on improvised music from Germany. In addition to our international guests, local improvisers will talk about their practice and the current scene in Singapore for improvised music.
