ExhibitionWhat does it mean to hold space, create space or share space within therapeutic and educational contexts? How might space become both a container and catalyst for change?
Presented by the MA Art Therapy programme at LASALLE, SPACE—Honouring the Art in Art Therapy celebrates the creative essence at the heart of art therapy practice and education, as well as the shared field of discovery that unfolds, shifts, transforms and is experienced on different levels at different times as part of the intersubjective, relational and responsive dynamics between therapist and client. SPACE invites contemplation on how environments—internal, individual, institutional, interconnected, intersectional—shape, influence, impact and even revolve the practice of art therapy.
The exhibition gathers works from students and faculty that explore the intersections of art-making, reflection and therapeutic inquiry. Each artist was invited to transform a two-piece cardboard template into a unique three-dimensional form, collectively examining the generative potential of materials and media, process and imagination.
Positioned within the 'Arts and Health' initiative, SPACE affirms and recognises art as a vital agent for connection, healing and understanding. Viewers are invited to witness, reflect and engage with these works as bridges between self and community—between art and therapy, making and meaning
