Stigma Stains: The Somaesthetics of Institutional Abjection
Dr Natasha Lushetich

Stigma Stains: The Somaesthetics of Institutional Abjection queries the relation between applied aesthetics, politicised sociality, individual, and institutional vulnerability. Based on empirical, theoretical, and artistic research, carried out at the Bethlem Royal Hospital, London, in 2014, this paper argues for a concept of unintentional stigma-tisation, which occurs behind the scenes, in looped somaesthetic processes, in the passage from the hazy to the clear horizon of consciousness (Nagatomo), and as a byproduct of behavioural and environmental ugliness.

Origins: Poems
Dr Darryl Whetter

The fossil record found in what is now Joggins, Nova Scotia, Canada records the key evolutionary milestone in which marine life chose to live on land. Darryl Whetter edited the nomination dossier of the Joggins Fossil Cliffs research and eco-tourism site as it applied (successfully) for inscription on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. His poems examine evolution, energy and extinction as they can be, have been and should be observed in the Joggins fossil record. Additionally, several poems posit art as an intentional fossil.
