Lunchtime Concert Series: The Straits Ensemble

Comprising a String Quartet, Oud, Sanxian and World Percussion, The Straits Ensemble navigates the rich tapestry of our heritage and taps on a global kampung spirit to celebrate diversity. Created by Singaporean composer Felix Phang, this project is an exploration of the cultural identity of his multicultural home that continues to surprise him every day. Drawing from the rich landscapes of folk and world music, Felix seeks out sounds that excite and inspire him to create new music that he hopes will speak to and for his fellow man. The Straits Ensemble is part of an ambitious over-arching project that will culminate in a live concert by a 30-person performance group consisting of dance, chorus, rhythm section, ethnic and ceramic instruments with Felix Phang at the helm.
