MsKaren Tay

Ms Karen Tay has extensive experience across both public and private organisations, spanning finance, healthcare, education and private equity.
She currently serves as an independent director on HSBC Bank (Singapore) Limited, Manulife US Real Estate Management Pte Ltd, Banyan Tree Holdings, K3 Venture Partners Pte Ltd, BC Platforms AG (Switzerland), and Cognita k-12 International Schools (UK). Karen also sits on Northeastern University’s Centre for Emerging Markets Advisory Board, D’Amore Mckim School of Business (USA), and was a member of the University’s Corporation.
Ms Tay was also appointed as a Non-Executive Director to the Board of Butterfield Trust (Asia) Limited, a trust company regulated by the Monetary Authority of Singapore, effective 9 April 2025.
Her long standing interest in the arts led her to support artists at the Venice Biennale and other exhibitions, as well as the production of a commissioned work for the Singapore Arts Festival opening night performance and Hong Kong Vision Festival in 2012. Ms Tay served on the National Arts Council’s Steering Committee for the Singapore Biennale 2008, as well as on the boards of Opera Viva and The Red Pencil Singapore.
Ms Tay’s career began in the Ministry of Finance, with postings at the Inland Revenue and Monetary Authority of Singapore. She was later Deputy CEO, SingHealth, and concurrently Deputy CEO, Singapore General Hospital, and has worked on the planning and successful start-up of two medical schools in Singapore. She has also run a private equity real estate fund, IP Investment Management Singapore.
Karen has a BA (Hons) Economics, University of Cambridge and an MPA/International Tax Programme (Certificate) from Harvard University. She was a President’s Scholar and Overseas Merit Scholar, and was awarded a Medal of Commendation by the National Trades Union Congress in 2008.
