Overcoming multiple cultural, language and injury challenges, two final year students from LASALLE’s School of Dance and Theatre, Jocelyn Tay and Natasha Koo, not only succeeded in performing a Malay dance in Japan, they also captivated the judges enough to be picked to represent Asia at a prestigious dance competition in Spain.
Speaking to Berita Harian, Diploma in Dance lecturer Fairul Zahid said that the nine-minute performance presented by his two students shed light on the issues of women leaders in the community and was titled Sopan.
"This dance raises women's issues which highlight the ability of Malay women to become leaders in a society," he added.
