Open House programme highlights

PAPER stories
23 Jan, 1:00pm–6:00pm
24 Jan, 11:00am–5:00pm
Ngee Ann Kongsi Library Blk F Level 4

PAPER Stories is a theme developed for Material Studies 1, a studio workshop under Craft, Techniques and Technologies 1 for Diploma in Fine Arts Year 1 students.

Between material and structure, students investigate paper as a material, to transform two-dimensional drawings to three-dimensional forms through extension of paper with appropriate medium as well as combining methods in other areas of studies for fabrication.

These paper sculptures drive deep into self-discovery, observation of nature and exploring one’s thoughts in a meaningful visual language through careful craftsmanship to capture everyday stories that surround us.

Diploma in Fine Arts Process Journal Showcase
23 Jan, 1:00pm–6:00pm
24 Jan, 11:00am–5:00pm
Outside Ngee Ann Kongsi Library lobby
Blk F Level 4

Take a peek into the creative journeys of Diploma in Fine Arts students through their process journals.

These journals reveal how ideas evolve, capturing thoughts, sketches and discoveries that shape each student’s artistic direction. More than documentation, they serve as a reflective space for experimentation and self-discovery, tracing the gradual refinement of concepts and techniques.

The display focuses on material studies, where students explore materiality, texture and tactile surfaces to understand how materials communicate meaning. Through these journals, we see not only the outcomes but also the processes that define their growth as emerging artists.

Cross-pollination: Fashion & psychoanalysis
23 Jan, 1:00pm–6:00pm
24 Jan, 11:00am–5:00pm
Gallery 1

Cross-pollination: Fashion & psychoanalysis is an innovative global exhibition uniting emerging designers from LASALLE College of the Arts, Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) and University of Monterrey.

Inspired by the Museum at FIT's Dress, Dreams, and Desire: Fashion and Psychoanalysis (2025–2026) curated by Dr Valerie Steele, this exhibition explores the unconscious interplay of identity, emotion and embodiment in fashion through psychoanalytic frameworks and themes such as the ‘Mirror Stage’, ‘the Gaze’, and the ‘Fragmented Body’, ‘Skin/Bodies to Wear’, and ‘The Naked Dreamer/Surrealism’.

This groundbreaking Collaboration Online International Learning (COIL) project challenged students to translate complex theories into tangible expressions. The resulting outcomes from garments, textiles and experimental eyewear designs supported by bbase Design group offer Southeast Asian, North American and Latin American perspectives that decentre traditional fashion discourse and showcase meticulous craftsmanship articulating personal identity. The exhibition invites you to view clothing as a ‘deep surface’ and a vessel for dreams, desire and the shifting self, celebrating fashion as a cultural artefact and a powerful psychological expression.
