Open House

Welcome to LASALLE Open House 2023

Find your place in the arts and realise your potential. As Asia’s leading contemporary arts and design institution, LASALLE will grow your creative talent through an inspiring, interdisciplinary approach, led by an international faculty of artist-educators.

Message from the President

Welcome to LASALLE!

You have taken your first step towards joining one of the most vibrant, dynamic, and inspiring arts institutions in Asia. We are delighted to show you around in-person at our Open House, which resumes after a two-year hiatus.

What makes the LASALLE experience special? If you were to ask our students you would probably get as many different answers. The creative energy. A beautiful, award-winning campus. Opportunities to attend and organise exhibitions, events and talks from a wide range of artistic disciplines. Industry links that mean you graduate with strong connections and real-world experience. Our world-class faculty, most of whom are also practising artists.

Today, you bring with you brand new ideas and perspectives, shaped by your experiences in a world vastly unlike anything we have seen in previous generations. The pandemic has completely transformed the way we live, work, play and think. It is in a world like this that we will need artists and designers more than ever. We will need people who can bridge disciplines and make creative connections. We will need acts of courage, imagination and hope.

To the artists, designers and performers of tomorrow, this is your time to shine. LASALLE stands ready to start you on your journey.

I wish you a very fruitful Open House, and look forward to welcoming you to our campus in-person come August!

Some kind of happy

Placed in opposition to an overt expression of excitement and delight, Some kind of happy conjures an understated feeling of bliss. Whether externally expressed as a reply to how one is feeling, or an internally felt sensation when encountering something that gives pleasure, it invokes an overall positive note.

The artworks shown in this exhibition intends to elicit these quiet nuanced perceptions of happiness, pleasure and hope. Ranging from mediums that are more materially tangible to those that are ephemeral, the prints, objects, paintings, sound work and installation are a result of our current Diploma, BA(Hons) and MA Fine Arts students’ studio practice and processes.

The workshop will explore modular systems through the medium of collage and create alphabets and limited edition letterforms – combining basic elements, primary shapes and colour paper to create a series of energetic one word posters. The session is aimed at participants who are interested in learning about design principles and who would like to create their own modular personal typeface.
