Course details
Develop and expand your knowledge of music performance skills. Learn how to read music scores, as well as sight read. This course helps to extend your ability to recognise music styles, rhythms and keys, developing a solid music theory foundation to support your music skills.

About the trainer
Rick Smith
Rick Smith is a guitarist, educator and composer with over 40 years of professional experience. Based in Singapore since 1991, he is fully immersed in the local arts and music scene. He taught music at the Lycée Français de Singapour from 2016 to 2020 and is currently an adjunct lecturer at LASALLE College of the Arts and School of the Arts Singapore.
Fluent in Mandarin, Rick has arranged, performed and composed for Chinese artistes such as Cai Qin and Harlem Yu, as well as acted for local television. He directed the National University of Singapore Jazz Band for over a decade, led performances at Harry’s Bar at Boat Quay, and currently heads the Rick Smith Quintet, an international collective of musicians which performed at the Esplanade in 2026.
Rick holds a BA (Hons) in Music, specialising in Composition and Arranging, as well as an MA in Arts Pedagogy and Practice, from LASALLE College of the Arts.

Prospective music students, music enthusiasts, and/or anyone interested in learning the basics of music studio recording, music mixing and recording. This course is highly recommended for those who do not have any formal music training and/or are considering to apply to LASALLE’s Diploma and BA(Hons) Music programmes. Musicians who have never received formal music theory education and who would like to raise their level of musicianship are welcome too.

Introduction to Irish Dance
This course is a beginner-level introduction to Irish dancing, suitable for learners with little or no previous experience in Irish dance. The course will focus on building a strong foundation in basic Irish dance technique, movement vocabulary, rhythm and musical awareness before progressing to dance sequences. Learners will be introduced to correct posture, foot and body positioning, basic Irish dance movements, and basic exercises to develop balance, coordination, strength and flexibility. Beyond the Basics of Acting (Acting II)
This course is designed to deepen your understanding of truthful performance, focusing on authenticity, presence and genuine human connection. You will be guided beyond surface-level technique to explore how truthful acting emerges through listening, impulse and moment-to-moment response. Through structured exercises, improvisation, text work and scene exploration, you will develop greater emotional confidence and clarity of intention in making bold yet grounded choices. Ballet Repertoire Workshop (Adult Intermediate Level)
Over four sessions, this course introduces learners to a selected piece of classical ballet repertoire performed in soft ballet shoes. Each session includes structured barre exercises, centre work to develop specific techniques and steps, and guided learning of the repertoire choreography. The variation planned for this run is the Peasant Pas female variation from Giselle. You will build confidence in your movement quality, musicality and coordination while gaining insight into how classical ballet choreography is constructed and performed.
