Course details

This landscape painting course is for beginners or participants with some painting experiences who want to explore oil medium and a new subject. The course is suitable for anyone aged 15 and above who is curious or interested in painting and willing to explore this traditional medium and diverse approaches.

Participants will acquire the basic knowledge of colour theory, principles and elements of arts. They will learn to apply some painting techniques/methods and materials to create cohesive works at the end of the course.

About the trainer

Ernest Chan Tuck Yew

Ernest Chan Tuck Yew is a full-time fine artist and educator who has received accolades locally and internationally. He has exhibited at various institutions including the Singapore President’s Young Talents Exhibition at the Singapore Art Museum, The Esplanade and the Singapore Tyler Print Institute. Ernest holds a Master of Fine Arts from Cheltenham & Gloucester College of Higher Education, a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the University of Central England, Birmingham Institute of Arts and Designs and a Diploma in Fine Art (Printmaking) from LASALLE College of the Arts.

Ernest lectured at LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts Fine from 1999 to 2006 and is currently a teaching artist under the Ministry of Education and National Art Council’s Artist-Mentor Scheme where he guides visual arts teachers in both content and pedagogical knowledge. During his years at LASALLE, he was also the vice-president and member of the Printmaking Society Singapore.

Ernest was part of the visual arts programming and curatorial team at The Esplanade from 2006 to 2008. He has exhibited widely and spoken at international platforms.
