Event details

Creative practice research has faced increasing ethical scrutiny over the last decade. The rise of relational art practices, interdisciplinary work, tighter regulations and evolving research methodologies have amplified the need for ethical discourse.

In this session, Professor David Prior will explore the reasons behind this shift with concepts from the philosophy of ethics. He will discuss the tension between creative expression and research integrity, evolving notions of consent, participant representation and power dynamics—especially in collaborative and co-created research designs.

About the speaker
David Prior is a musician by background, though his career has spanned music, photography, film, writing and installation. With a degree in music and religious studies and a doctorate in music, David has navigated professional practice, research, teaching and university leadership.

For over a decade, he has collaborated with architect Frances Crow at Liminal, a studio exploring the relationship between sound, space and listening. David is Pro Vice Chancellor for Research and Knowledge Exchange and Professor of Music and Sound Art at Falmouth University. He is also Chair of the Board of Trustees for the internationally renowned theatre company Wildworks.
