Event details

GDI2024–Advocators.
In a humanity-centred design system,
the Advocators drive design with the community.

The world needs designers who collaborate across disciplines to integrate knowledge and develop holistic solutions in an increasingly complex, decolonising environment. There is rising demand from the creative sector for leaders skilled in user experience, research and strategies design, content creation and social innovation. In tandem, all other sectors of the economy require design leaders for their compelling narratives and ability to navigate fluid cultures amidst changing demographics and digital transformation.

The future of design education will be characterised by a strong focus on digital tools and technologies, interdisciplinary collaboration, sustainability and social responsibility, and globalisation. Design institutions must adapt to these trends to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the rapidly evolving world. The Global Design Initiative (GDI) project, collaboratively led by five institutions since 2015, focuses on discovering new learning, thinking and designing parameters to respond to the clarion call of change.

Alternative Communities invites you to partake in a ‘pluriversal’ future where we advocate a sense of belonging and connection between and amongst diverse individuals and social groups. The aim is to explore and strengthen intersectionality within and between (design) communities to envision new approaches to building robust, resilient and diverse communities.
