About the School
Take the lead in the creative industries.
The School of Creative Industries nurtures the next generation of professionals in arts management, cultural leadership, creative therapies, education, writing and cultural entrepreneurship. Our purpose is to provide graduates with the knowledge, skills and professionalism needed to thrive in the ever-changing field of the creative and cultural industries.
The School’s programmes are guided by two fundamental principles. Firstly, that an effective and professional creative uses knowledge and critical thought to create, design and produce relevant and meaningful work. And secondly, that this work must be embedded in the contexts in which they practice.
To prepare our graduates for their careers, our programmes are grounded in the latest theoretical knowledge and required practical skills, as well as informed by relevant and current practice. Varying according to programme, students develop practical knowledge and professionalism through community initiatives, educational projects, research consultancy briefs, exhibitions, workshops, public performance events and clinical placements across a variety of arts, education and healthcare settings. Collaboration is encouraged across the different programmes within the School.
Our graduates have gone on to establish careers in the creative and cultural industries as arts managers, novelists, screenwriters, gallerists, festival organisers, creative entrepreneurs, arts educators, community practitioners and cultural policy administrators. They have set up creative therapy practices and joined healthcare and educational institutions to provide care and support for those in need. Whatever the discipline, our programmes help graduates become the creative professional they want to be.
