Coming soon! Creative Writing: Travel Writing

As in all good writing, travel writing is far more than a sequential account in prose. Learn techniques from other literary genres to make your travel writing come alive on the page. Key literary techniques like voice, dialogue, pace, narrative arc and humour will be showcased to commence and improve your travel writing.

About the trainer
Professor Darryl Whetter was the inaugural Programme Leader of LASALLE’s MA Creative Writing programme, from 2016 to 2020, guiding students to win awards such as the Golden Point, reading their work at the Singapore Writer’s Festival, as well as negotiating book deals. . 

He is the author of ten books of fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction. His most recent books include the climate-crisis novel Our Sands (Penguin Random House, 2020), as editor, Teaching Creative Writing in Asia (Routledge, 2022) and The Best Asian Short Stories 2022 (Kitaab, 2023). His writings such as Canadian Stories, Best Canadian Essays and Best Asian Short Stories  have been selected for awards.  

Dr Whetter also held positions as a  festival or campus author in Bali, Singapore, London, Penang, Swansea, Perth, Sydney and Canada. His forthcoming books include the 2023 poetry collection #Travelsend: Poems at Travel’s End and, from Routledge, Teaching Creative Writing in Canada (2024).
