Thaïs Claude Mathilde Breton

2014

Thaïs Breton is a French filmmaker, born in Reunion Island in 1991 and raised in Singapore since 1996. She graduated from LASALLE College of the Arts in 2014 with a BA (Hons) in Film, majoring in Directing for Documentary and Post Production.

Although her first passion has always been filmmaking, Thaïs first studied business and management at the prestigious Classe Préparatoire HEC in Strasbourg, France. There, she gained a strong foundation in economics, history, philosophy and mathematics, allowing her to integrate her business and economic knowledge into her creative pursuits.

Thaïs has a rich multicultural background, having travelled and lived in multiple cities. Her sensitivity to political and economic issues, combined with her keen eye for visual detail, gives her films a distinctive personal imprint. Her thesis film, The Collectors, documents the experiences of individuals whose parents suffer from Alzheimer’s, set against a backdrop of local and collective cultural amnesia driven by the mass erasure of remnants of “Old Singapore”.

Thaïs works actively as a conceptual videographer with international clients and travels across Southeast Asia for shoots. Exposure to such cultural diversity and striking landscapes continues to inspire her and enrich her personal work.

She is currently preparing a documentary exploring cultural neo-colonialism in Cambodia.
