Aloysius Foong
Aloysius is a role model and an inspiration to students of music. A trained accountant, he pursued his dream of becoming a musician and, even as a student, established himself in the music industry as a pianist, violist and violinist. He has performed in concerts with artistes such as George Lam and Corrinne May, assisted in music arrangements for the soundtrack of Treasure Hunters—a film starring Jay Chou—and recorded music for promotional advertisements for firms such as CapitaLand.
Aloysius continually develops his passion by performing with his chamber group, the Hulerz Quintet, playing piano and second viola. Their repertoire ranges from Dvořák and Brahms to Messiaen and Terry Riley. He has performed with the group in numerous concerts, including charity events and chamber performances at The Arts House, YMS Auditorium, NUS UCC Theatre and in vocal concerts organised by Stella Zhou at venues such as the Victoria Concert Hall.
As a student, Aloysius received a First Class Honours degree in Classical Performance. Under the tutelage of Mr Arkadiuz Bialak, he explored repertoire from the conventional to contemporary, cutting-edge compositions. He also participated actively in music projects and performances at LASALLE, including serving as music director, composer and performer in the LASALLE theatre production Orestia (2009), and performing as pianist, violist and violinist in LASALLE’s Contemporary Music Ensemble under Dr John Sharpley.
