LASALLE is honoured to receive the Silver Ribbon Mental Health Award in recognition of our efforts in raising awareness about mental health and empowering our students with information, resources and a supportive environment. LASALLE is one of 16 winners in the Schools category.
At the awards ceremony on 1 October 2024, Deputy President & Provost Dr Venka Purushothaman received the award on behalf of the College from Ms Gan Siow Huang, Minister of State, Ministry of Education and Ministry of Manpower. In his speech, Dr Venka highlighted the significant intersection between the arts and well-being, as well as how the College is proud to be at the forefront of making lives better through the arts.

One of the key mental wellness initiatives that LASALLE has launched is Mental Wellness Week. Organised by the Division of Student Administration, the annual event aims to combat the stigma surrounding mental health issues and promote a culture where students are encouraged to seek help when needed.
Throughout the week, students are able to participate in mindfulness and self-care workshops, as well as a variety of hands-on arts activities, such as clay-making. Booths by external partners offering counselling support as well as mental health-themed games and quizzes foster an inclusive environment.
LASALLE has also introduced regular activities aimed at building connection, community and care among students. A nature walk was organised in January 2024, designed to provide students with an opportunity to immerse themselves in nature, embrace mindfulness and engage in introspection. During the walk, students were taught to explore strategies for managing and regulating emotions, such as through exercise and an appreciation for the natural world.
After the stressful assessment period, students were also invited to participate in a kite flying event at Marina Barrage to help them unwind. The event offered the opportunity for participants to flex their artistic creativity by decorating the kites in pairs, promoting teamwork and connection.

All these initiatives highlight the College’s commitment to the health and welfare of the next generation of artists, creatives and designers. Opportunities to slow down and spend time together go a long way towards the health and happiness of our students.
