The McNally School of Fine Arts —in collaboration with Earth Observatory Singapore and, through the Embassy of Sweden in Singapore, with Vinnova, Strange Attractors, Stockholm Resilience Centre, Research Institutes of Sweden (RI.SE) and Konstfack—presents an exciting line-up of speculative workshops, research discussions and creative displays that brings together climate science, arts, education and innovation.

Singapore–Sweden Earth Week 2026 highlights the shared commitment of Singapore and Sweden to address the climate crisis through cross-sector partnership and cultural engagement. By fostering dynamic ecosystems and forging art-science connections, LASALLE’s MA Arts and Ecology demonstrates how the arts spark dialogue, build empathy and inspire creative forms of planetary stewardship.

Signs of Change

Signs of Change is a speculative design installation that reimagines public signage as a window into possible climate futures.

Drawing on hyper-localised knowledge, expert interviews alongside community workshops, the project translates emerging social, political and environmental shifts into plausible everyday policies, rendered at 1 to 1 scale.

Earth Day Festival

This festival celebrates the intersections of arts and sciences for climate action.

It features an MA Arts and Ecology exhibition of land-based and youth-driven projects and a ResourCity game session, as well as interactive flash lectures by Swedish and Singaporean researchers and practitioners, while community organisations offer demonstrations and opportunities for public engagement around sustainability and creative practice.

Ding Yi Music Ensemble's ECOncerts

This session extends and performs the Ding Yi x LASALLE Arts and Ecology Research Partnership through a dialogue between Ding Yi's ECOncert creative team and McNally School of Fine Arts researchers, with a live activation of a cello and a zhongruan made of recycled cardboard.

This session features Strange Attractors Records' 50 songs for the love of the biosphere, with live instrumental improvisation by Ding Yi musicians and spoken word by Nobel Prize Chief Impact Officer Owen Gaffney and Stockholm Resilience Centre's Per Olsson.

From local identity to global manifestations of socio-geopolitical issues, signs are explicit declarations of the ways we think and choose to live.

This session covers how Signs of Change builds on speculative design methodology to leverage the language and role signage plays in everyday life and articulate alternative ways of living in a rapidly changing environment.

Explore regional flavours of small bites from land and sea as well as an Earth Day mocktail, created especially for the occasion by LASALLE Fine Arts alumnus Leon Tan, chef and co-founder of restaurant-bar Laut. 

There will be speeches by the Mr Anders Sjöberg, Swedish Ambassador to Singapore and Dr Venka Purushothaman, President of LASALLE College of the Arts from 6:45pm to 7:00pm.

Subject and sector stakeholders from LASALLE and Singapore continue discussions towards drafting a United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Special Report featuring LASALLE as a centre for cultural sustainability, to be launched by IPCC in Singapore in March 2027.
