Every 22 April, Earth Day draws attention to climate concerns and calls for planetary stewardship, but how can ecological awareness and action be sustained across fields and through the year?
LASALLE’s MA Arts and Ecology programme embraces this challenge with hands, heart and mind. Through community and research partnerships at home and abroad, land-based practices and durational experiments fold dynamically into infrastructural initiatives and cultural commitments to animate a plural spirit equal to the root of “ecology”—οἰ̑κος(oikos) or household—towards caring for our common dwelling on earth together.
From composing to composting and from cultivation to conservation, the projects in this space continue to invite participation and shift mindsets for responsive and responsible making. When considerations for the immediate, local environment complement long-term, translocal matters of ecological justice, harmonic frequencies multiply, the resonant frequency of a system expands, and systems can change.
This exhibition is presented by the McNally School of Fine Arts, in collaboration with Ding Yi Music Company, Earth Observatory of Singapore, Embassy of Sweden in Singapore and Shared Campus.
