Have you always wanted to write a novel but not sure how to begin? This eight-session online course is designed to guide aspiring writers through the essential first steps of crafting their first novel.
In a structured and supportive virtual environment, you will explore the
fundamentals of storytelling, including story structure, pacing, narrative voice and character development. Through guided writing exercises and discussions, you will learn how to develop a compelling premise, shape engaging protagonists and build dramatic tension that sustains a reader’s interest.
By the end of the course, you will have developed a clear outline for your novel, mapped out key plot points, and gained the confidence and practical tools needed to continue writing beyond the programme.

About the trainer
Alice Clark-Platts
Alice Clark-Platts is an accomplished author known for her crime novels, including The Cove, The Flower Girls, Bitter Fruits and The Taken, which was a finalist for the Dead Good Reader Awards' Best Police Procedural. Her short fiction has been featured in various publications, showcasing her talent for storytelling.
Aside from her writing career, Alice has a background as a human rights litigator, having worked on notable cases involving Winnie Mandela and rapper Snoop Dogg. She also founded The Singapore Writers' Group and regularly conducts writing workshops, sharing her expertise in creative and non-fiction writing.
