Executive/Senior Executive (Exhibitions)

The Institute of Contemporary Arts Singapore (ICAS) is the curatorial division of LASALLE College of the Arts. Situated at LASALLE’s dynamic city campus, ICAS’s five galleries present a programme of curated international exhibitions alongside exhibitions organised with students, academic staff and alumni. ICAS provides curatorial expertise and resources in the areas of exhibition development, display and mediation, publishing and education and manages the LASALLE College of the Arts Collection.

Reporting to the Manager (Operations), you will play a pivotal role in the planning, coordination and execution of our exhibitions and events. You will work closely with curators, artists, administrative and academic staff and students to produce, install and maintain exhibitions at the galleries. You will also oversee all aspects related to art handling and be involved in logistics.

Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Oversee the end-to-end installation and de-installation of exhibitions, ensuring immaculate standards for lighting, labelling and overall visual presentation.
  • Manage and work closely with internal and external stakeholders including artists, curators, staff and students for exhibition setup.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope and budget in accordance to safety, design and material specifications.
  • Take charge of essential administrative tasks, including the procurement of materials and goods necessary for building and setting up exhibitions.
  • Conduct routine exhibition condition checks and maintain strict management of store inventory.
  • Stay ahead of the curve by researching current trends and industry best practices impacting exhibition planning, logistics, fabrication and design.
  • Supervise front-of-house staff (including Visitor Service Officers and Art Handlers). You will handle scheduling, conduct training on art-handling protocols and enforce gallery security and safety SOPs.
  • Perform other roles, such as exhibition checks and/or store inventory when required.
  • Commit to being on shift duty at least once per week during regular gallery operating hours, and occasionally work late nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Perform ad hoc assignments when required.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an established university, preferably in the field of education, arts/events management with at least three years of relevant work experience in galleries/museums/events management.
  • Diploma holder with at least eight years or equivalent of relevant work experience in galleries/museums/events management may also be considered.
  • Good organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good interpersonal, spoken and written communication skills and able to communicate with individuals across a wide range of positions, interests and skills, from artists and students to sponsors.
  • Self-motivated, responsible, driven and resourceful. Able to work well independently and also a good team player.
  • Good knowledge in technical and maintenance of IT and audio-visual equipment.
  • Experience with installing contemporary art exhibitions is an added advantage.
  • Good knowledge of the Workplace Safety and Health Act and other work-related regulations or legislations.
  • Proficient in operating with Mac platforms and Microsoft 365. Knowledge in AutoCad, Photoshop or Illustrator will be an advantage.
