Kumari Nahappan is a leading Southeast Asian artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture and installation. Celebrated for bridging the language of international contemporary art with her own cultural vocabulary, she has developed a distinct visual identity rooted in heritage and belief. Her works have been exhibited internationally at the Mori Art Museum (Japan), Singapore Art Museum, Seoul Art Centre (Korea), Museum Rudana (Indonesia), and in major cities including London, New York, Berlin, Hong Kong and Sydney.
In 2024, Kumari presented Wings of Change at the Light to Night Festival, featuring a luminous saga seed symbolising energy and hope. In 2023, she participated in The Upcycling Project with Singapore Airlines and created The New Floodlights for Art in the Night Race, repurposing floodlights into sculptures.
Kumari’s accolades include the Singapore Indian Artist Icon Award (2014), Artist of the Year at the Shanghai Art Fair (2011), and the Ksatria Seni Award from Museum Rudana (2004), where she was the first female and foreign recipient.
