Jow Zhi Wei is a filmmaker known for compelling stories that illuminate lesser-known communities. His early short Waiting (2009) won Best Script and Jury Special Mention for Best Director and Best Performance at the Singapore Short Film Awards. In 2013, his film After the Winter was selected for competition at the Cinéfondation Selection of the 66th Cannes Film Festival in France—the first time a Singaporean filmmaker competed in that category. The film also screened at Montreal, Huesca, San Sebastian and Busan.
He received the Young Artist Award, Singapore’s highest accolade in the arts, in 2014. His shorts Outing (2010, San Sebastian Film Festival), Waiting (2010, 15th Busan International Film Festival) and After the Winter (2013, Cannes Cinéfondation at the 66th Cannes Film Festival) were featured in the Palais de Tokyo’s 20 Years of Le Fresnoy retrospective (2017). His debut feature Tomorrow Is A Long Time was developed at the Jerusalem Sam Spiegel International Film Lab (2016) and later presented at Berlinale Talents Tokyo (2017) and Golden Horse Film Project Promotion (2018).
