- MA (Design), The Open University, UK
- BA Honours (Interior Design), The Open University, UK
Ang Xinwei is a design educator, researcher, and practitioner whose work seamlessly blends interior and architectural considerations. Since 2006, he has developed a distinctive design approach that integrates architectural and interior considerations, underpinned by a deep interest in experiential and immersive spatial practices.
At LASALLE College of the Arts’ School of Spatial & Product Design, he has led significant transformations in the Interior Design, Product Design and Design for Social Futures curriculum, embedding Southeast Asian cultural contexts and advancing an experiential pedagogy that prioritises direct engagements with people and space. He has successfully guided the School through international validations with The Open University and Goldsmiths, University of London, and played a pivotal role as LASALLE became a founding member of the University of the Arts Singapore alliance.
His professional practice, ATELIER 01, operates across Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, and Indonesia, delivering projects that range from bespoke residences and hospitality spaces to commercial developments. The studio’s work is marked by a sensitivity to site, materiality, spatiality and atmosphere, ensuring that each project is grounded in a thoughtful response to context and lived experience.
His research articulates inhabitation as a methodology for spatial practice and identifies core spatial habits as tools for developing spatial intelligence and refining design processes. This work contributes to global discourses on practice research in spatial design fields, offering insights into how lived experience can inform both design practice and education.
Through his dual roles in academia and practice, he continues to shape the field of spatial design, fostering a culture of critical reflection and iterative learning that resonates in Southeast Asia and beyond.
Atelier 01 Pte Ltd

RMIT Design Practice Research PhD (The School of Architecture & Urban Design)
Xinwei’s ongoing practice research at RMIT investigates the relationships between academic research—historicising, theorising, and critiquing—as well as artistic practice—ideating, iterating and making—within the framework of creative practice research. This inquiry situates inhabitation as a critical methodology, exploring how embodied spatial practices can inform both professional design processes and pedagogical models in architecture, interior and spatial design.
