Mrs. Kirtida Mekani

The environment, education, arts and business – these are the four key pillars of Kirtida Mekani’s life, and the passions she has devoted a lifetime to advocating.

Mrs Kirtida Mekani is an entrepreneur, educationist and businesswoman with diverse experience in fundraising, institutional advancement, capacity building and promoting environmental causes. Outside of work, she is an accomplished artist and ceramist, whose works have been showcased at exhibitions across Singapore.

She is a strong advocate, actively contributing to make a positive difference in matters relating to the environment, biodiversity, climate change and nature-based solutions – and has championed many programmes that connect communities, corporations and students with nature.

She currently serves on the boards of WWF Singapore, Botanic Gardens Conservation International (BGCI), and is a committee member on the NParks Garden City Fund Management Committee. One of her most instrumental roles was as the Executive Director of the Singapore Environment Council.

Mrs Mekani’s contribution to the area of education include serving on the International Advisory Board of the Global Indian International School Singapore (GIIS), as well as the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society (SIFAS) management committee. She was also a trustee on the Board of the United World College of South East Asia (UWCSEA) Foundation, chairing their fundraising committee. She is currently serving as an Independent Director on the UWCSEA Foundation Board Singapore.

Over the years, she has used her business acumen to raise funds for various institutions and causes, including the Singapore Management University and the Anglo-American School of Moscow.

In recognition of her outstanding efforts and contributions, Mrs Mekani was bestowed the prestigious President’s Award for the Environment in 2015. She was also nominated for the Singapore Women Award in 2014, and recognised as a 2012 Community in Bloom (CIB) ambassador. She strives to continue her efforts to create, fund and support initiatives that bring people together, drive education forward and nurture the minds of future generations.
