Dr Mardhiah Osman

Since 2008, Dr Mardhiah Osman has been a faculty member of the Puttnam School of Film & Animation’s BA (Hons) Film programme, where she has been instrumental in designing its Critical Film Studies curriculum. Currently, she leads Critical Film Studies and also facilitates student portfolio projects.
Her professional background includes experience as a commissioning editor at Mediacorp’s Suria, providing a valuable industry perspective to her academic practice. In 2024, she received her Doctor in Education from the University of Western Australia, with research investigating stakeholders’ perspectives of the relationship between theory and practice within an undergraduate Southeast Asian film programme.
Dr Osman’s scholarly interests continue to centre on pedagogies such as experiential and situated learning, that foster the critical nexus of theory and practice in film education. Demonstrating engagement with the broader film landscape, her professional activities include serving as a jury member (nomination phase) for Suria’s Pesta Perdana and the ciNE65 Short Film Competition, as well as collaborations with community partners such as the National Library Board, Poetry Festival Singapore, and the European Union Film Festival to curate and showcase student short films.
