Tipping Points 2019

Tipping Points is a high-voltage evening of entertainment. This is a showcase of all levels of students from the Diploma in Dance Programme. It includes a wide range of work in different genres choreographed by faculty and alumni such as Jenny Neo of Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre, Goh Xiangtian, Bernice Lee and guest Artist Olé Khamchanla (France/ Laos). It also features selected work by graduating level 3 students.

The LASALLE Show exhibition is an annual exhibition by the final year students from the Diploma, Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and Master of Arts programmes. Showcasing the works of students from Design, Fine Arts, Film, Media Arts, Dance, Music, Theatre, Art Therapy, and Arts Management, The LASALLE Show exhibition 2019 marks the grand finale of an artistic education in creativity and imagination and the transformation of these young talents into professional artists in the larger creative industries ecosystem.

Trans/Mission invites BA(Hons) Level 3 students from the 8 Schools within LASALLE College of the Arts to share their Final Year (Dissertation) research. With such a platform, we hope to facilitate interdisciplinary exchanges about issues to do with research methodologies, hypotheses and experimentations that shape the students’ practices.

Michael Earley, Dean of LASALLE's Faculty of Performing Arts, shares his vision for the future of Singapore theatre in an age of dissolving boundaries, and how LASALLE is well positioned to fully embrace cross-disciplinary integration for modern audiences. Michael's position as Dean allows him to not only bring together different cultural forms of theatre, but also create opportunities for collaboration between the various disciplines in the College, orientating LASALLE graduates towards new art forms in the 21st century.

Rosalind, the daughter of an unjustly exiled duke, falls in love with the wronged Orlando, a courtier deprived of his birth right by his brother. But her usurping uncle, jealous of Rosalind’s popularity with the people, banishes her from court. Disguised as a boy and accompanied by her cousin Celia, she seeks out her father and his friends in the Forest of Arden.

In conversation with: Dr Venka Purushothaman on his journey in arts education

Hi Venka, you’ve been involved in the arts for a long time now. Tell us a little about your journey.

I studied English Literature and Mass Communications at York University in Canada, with a particular interest in literary, cultural and communications theories. I followed on with an MA in English Literature specialising in Shakespeare and postcolonial studies. For my PhD, I read Singaporean cultural policy and festival cultures at the University of Melbourne, Australia.

Musang Berjanggut (The Bearded Civet)

Featuring Level 2 Diploma in Performance students, Musang Berjanggut (The Bearded Civet) depicts the embodiment of both Adab (decorum) and Limu (knowledge), which is as manifested through a young maiden whose wisdom surpasses all her male counterparts. This 90-minute play in the form of Bangsawan, a classical Malay performing art, is an in-depth look at love, sacrifice, intelligence, and patience. This production is presented in English and Malay.
